Waaban is an “at-risk youth” based program involving reconnection with the world, people, nature and culture. Land-based programming encourages knowledge learning, promotes curiosity, and starts the spirit in its healing process. In-house programming allows for positive socialization, and the chance to meet new peers, and learn new skills. One-on-one supports are available in NBIFC and outside the agency to help youth cope with social stresses, addiction struggles and mental health coping mechanisms. The Waaban Program allows youth a safe, non-judgmental environment to learn, grow, and change negative behaviours with the support of workers and other peers.
