POSITION: The Waaban Worker will organize and deliver culturally orientated services based on the needs of urban Indigenous youth at risk ages 12-17 years.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Waaban Worker reports directly to the Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A minimum combination of three (3) years of education and experience relating to youth mental health, addictions and youth in the justice system.
• Strong knowledge of urban Indigenous issues and needs, and inner workings of the local justice system and knowledge of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is an asset.
• Crisis intervention training, anger management training, applied suicide intervention skills training (ASIST) and First Aid/CPR certificates are essential.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently within multi-sector groups.
•Time management and organizational skills.
• Computer literacy and strong written and oral skills.
• Willing to work flexible hours including evening and weekend programming.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract.
• A recent Vulnerable Sector check is a condition of employment.

Healthy Babies Healthy Children Worker

POSITION: The Indigenous Healthy Babies Healthy Children Worker (IHBHCW) is to be a helper, an auntie or an uncle to families of the urban Indigenous population within Nipissing District. They will promote healthy growth and development of Indigenous children, build on parenting skills, and link families with community supports and resources. The IHBHCW will work with families in their home environment from the prenatal period to age 6 years.
ACCOUNTABILITY: This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Social Service Worker Diploma and/or 3 to 5 years relevant work experience.
• Strong knowledge of urban Indigenous issues.
• Crisis intervention training, anger management training, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and First Aid/CPR certificates are essential.
• Working knowledge of traditional teachings, urban and on-reserve culture.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multi sector groups.

Communications Assistant

SALARY: $40,622 – $54,964
PURPOSE: The Communications Assistant will provide assistance to the Communications Coordinator. The Communications Assistant will assist in the Communications program’s day to day activities in the promotion of activities and events at the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre (NBIFC). The Communications Assistant will assist in creating digital, editorial, and operational support in relation to communications for NBIFC activities and programs and will support the Communications Coordinator in ensuring the organization’s communications are influential, informative, and engaging for our clients, members, and community.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Communications Assistant is accountable to the Executive Director and/or designate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or relevant postsecondary education
• Proficiency in social media tools and platforms such as Canva, Facebook, Instagram,
• Good written and oral communication skills in the English language, with demonstrated experience in writing for the Web and day-to-day operating of social media accounts
• Experience in event planning or willing to learn
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications, including calendars, emails, Word and Excel sheets, and other related databases and applications such as Google Forms and Docs and Canva.
• Experience using social media tools for advocacy, networking, and analysis, and managing social media accounts and developing content for them
• Good problem-solving and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work within a team and complete tasks with minimal supervision
• Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history and realities of urban Indigenous people
• Knowledge of the Friendship Centre movement, its aims and objectives, programs and services
• Writing in an Indigenous language is an asset

• Knowledge of formatting standards for press releases, etc., is an asset

Suswin Village Transitional House (SVTH) Night Client Care Worker

STATUS: part time, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, as needed. 4-12 hour shifts
SALARY: $25.15/hr plus 4% vacation pay
PURPOSE: The CASUAL/RELIEF Night Client Care Worker will work in partnership with members of the client care team to provide support and overnight care and security of clients and the SVTH. The SVTH Night Client Care Worker’s responsibilities are to ensure clients are following program and facility rules and procedures in a consistent manner. The Suswin Village Transitional House is a 24 hour/7days per week facility for homeless males.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The CASUAL/RELIEF Night Client Care Worker reports to the SVTH Case Manager and is ultimately accountable to the Executive Director of the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• College diploma in Social Worker/Social Service Worker and/or related field or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience providing supportive services to homeless individuals highly preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Understanding of severe mental, physical health and substance abuse issues and symptoms
• Excellent interpersonal and crisis intervention skills with a ‘can do’ and flexible attitude
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, multitask, and maintain confidentiality

The Indigenous Prenatal Nutrition/Family Support Program Assistant will be responsible for delivering programming according to the goals of both the Prenatal Nutrition program and the Family Support program. The Indigenous Prenatal Nutrition/Family Support Program Assistant will be under the supervision and direction of the Prenatal Nutrition Worker and the Family Support Worker and is ultimately responsible to the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
• Early Childhood Education and/or Social Services Diploma or related relevant work experience
• Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture
• Experience working with urban Indigenous individuals, families and children
• Experience in facilitating workshops and programming from development to delivery
• Excellent communication skills with staff, families and community members
• Maintains confidentiality and a professional demeanor
• Knowledge of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Effect, solvent abuse and family dysfunction.

Indigenous Children’s Wellness Worker

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Indigenous Children’s Wellness Worker is accountable to the Executive Director.
OVERVIEW: The Indigenous Children’s Wellness (ICW) Worker promotes positive development and positive life choices of urban Indigenous children ages 7-14 years who have experienced violence. The ICW program is grounded in cultural traditions providing a sense of belonging and pride in each individual. The program offers a variety of strategies such as one-to-one activities, group activities and family circles to encourage positive behaviour, wholistic wellbeing and to address intergenerational experiences of violence, each tailored to the individual and family’s needs. The program will guide children in recognizing violence and gain the understanding that violence is not a normal aspect of life. Through personal support and cultural resources, the program provides children with education and knowledge to help on their healing journey and promote optimal levels of understanding, reasoning and daily success after violence has occurred.
EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
▪ Shall possess post-secondary diploma in Indigenous social work or related field and/or 2 years of relevant experience
▪ Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on family violence and the relationship to child welfare.
▪ Strong understanding of the Child and Family Services Act and Ontario Children’s Aid Societies, with particular emphasis on how they impact Indigenous families.
▪ Must possess skills and experience in presenting educational workshops and facilitating groups.
▪ Self-motivated, able to schedule and prioritize work.
▪ Good judgment, adaptability and willingness to learn.
▪ Willingness to work flexible hours.
▪ Excellent interpersonal skills with staff and community members.
▪ Ability to work under pressure.
▪ Knowledge of the Friendship Centre movement, its aims and objectives.
