Part Time Medical Transportation Driver/Friendly Visitor – Open Until Filled

(Life Long Care and Aging at Home Programs)

STATUS:     Contract, Part Time, 25 hours/week

SALARY:     $24,245 – $32,799 plus 4% vacation pay

ACCOUNTABILITY: This position is accountable to the Executive Director.

PURPOSE: This position provides medical transportation for the elderly, and chronically ill clients locally and out of town within a 1,000 km radius round trip three days/week and will provide friendly visiting/companionship to Indigenous seniors/elders 55 years of age and older who present with complex care needs and for those seniors who are aging with general wellness two days per week.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to drive a multi-passenger vehicle safely and appropriately, including ability to read and interpret road signs in English;
  • Minimum 3 years driving experience and drivers abstract updated annually;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Ability to establish effective professional relationships with clients, co-workers, and upper level staff and employees;
  • Ability to prepare concise and accurate records and reports;
  • Extensive knowledge of the operations and features of assigned vehicle(s);
  • Ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs and ability to perform minor vehicle repairs;
  • Skilled in reasoning skills to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions;
  • Experience working with seniors, and transporting persons with disabilities;
  • Current CPR & first aid certification and ability to administer First Aid and CPR;
  • Clean, courteous, friendly, and respectful;
  • Experience working with Indigenous people an asset;
  • Ability to hold information in the strictest confidence;
  • Ability to work long hours for longer medical trips

CASUAL/RELIEF Suswin Village Transitional House (SVTH) Night Client Care Worker

STATUS: part time, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, as needed. 4-12 hour shifts

SALARY: $25.15/hr plus 4% vacation pay

PURPOSE: The CASUAL/RELIEF Night Client Care Worker will work in partnership with members of the client care team to provide support and overnight care and security of clients and the SVTH. The SVTH Night Client Care Worker’s responsibilities are to ensure clients are following program and facility rules and procedures in a consistent manner. The Suswin Village Transitional House is a 24 hour/7days per week facility for homeless males.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The CASUAL/RELIEF Night Client Care Worker reports to the SVTH Case Manager and is ultimately accountable to the Executive Director of the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College diploma in Social Worker/Social Service Worker and/or related field or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience providing supportive services to homeless individuals highly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of severe mental, physical health and substance abuse issues and symptoms
  • Excellent interpersonal and crisis intervention skills with a ‘can do’ and flexible attitude
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, multitask, and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain professional conduct, attitude and appearance at all times
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture
  • Strong knowledge of urban Indigenous issues and needs and experience working with urban Indigenous individuals
  • Ability to practice active and empathetic listening
  • Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, reporting databases and related technology
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently
  • Criminal record check/vulnerable sector check is required

Youth Life Promotion Program Worker

Status:                        Full time, permanent

Accountability:          Accountable to the Executive Director

Salary Range:            $45,773-$61,916 annually

SummaryThe Indigenous Youth Life Promotion Program is founded on principles of self-determination and cultural reclamation. The Indigenous Youth Life Promotion program goal is to support the wholistic development and provide a continuum of care services for youth at-risk, as well as addressing their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual health and well-being. The Indigenous Youth Life Promotion Program Worker will ensure the effective delivery of program objectives such that the needs of youth (ages 13-24) are met in a timely and culturally sensitive manner.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Child and Youth work or a combination of equivalent and relevant education
  • Minimum of three (3) years demonstrated and related work experience with children and youth
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture, history and the impacts of colonization with a particular emphasis on child, family, and community wellbeing
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach tools
  • Knowledge of traditional teachings, particularly in the areas of water and land-based activities, traditional medicines, and language reclamation and food education.
  • Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with child welfare agencies in Ontario.
  • Strong understanding of the Child and Family Services Act and the Ontario’s Children’s Aid Society, with particular emphasis of impact on Indigenous families.
  • Vulnerable Sector Records Check is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, reporting databases, and related technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently
  • Maintains personal and professional integrity, and handles confidential information with discretion
  • Valid driver’s license with clean abstract, appropriate insurance, and access to reliable transportation

Akwe:Go Enhancement Worker

Status: Permanent, full time, 35 hrs/week

Position Overview: The purpose of the Akwe:GO program is to provide suport and guidance within a cultural framework for children aged 7-12 who are at risk for specific negative behaviours and outcomes as a result of their circumstances in life. The goal is to be able to foster abilities to make healthy choices.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Social Service diploma and/or 3-5 years relevant work experince
  • knowledge of Indigenous culture and language
  • Knowledge of social, cultural, and recreational needs and interests of children and youth
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent facilitation skills
  • knowledge and experience working with Indigenous youth
  • Ability to meet deadlines with minimum supervision
  • Good time management and planning skills
  • A valid driver’s licence and provide a drivers abstract
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Safe Food Handlers certificate
  • Criminal records check/vulnerable person check
  • Ability to speak Ojibway or Cree would be an asset
