2025 Every Child Matters Walk

On September 30, a powerful gathering took place at the Kiwanis Bandshell to honour the children who never made it home from residential schools and to stand in solidarity with Survivors and their families.

The Every Child Matters Walk, organized by the Anishinabek Nation with the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre and the North Bay Indigenous Hub, began with a walk from Lee Park to the Bandshell.

Over 500 community members, leaders, and allies came together in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Speakers included partner representatives, MP Pauline Rochefort, Mayor Chirico, and, most importantly, Survivor Judy Couchie, whose words served as a powerful reminder of resilience and responsibility in the reconciliation process.

The Red Hawk Singers from Nbiising Secondary, along with dancers and other singers, offered honour songs and exhibition dances during the community feast, catered by Indigenous-owned Twiggs Coffee Roasters.

Information booths provided resources and opportunities for connection. The Every Child Matters Walk was more than an event—it was a collective step forward on the path of truth, healing, and reconciliation.

Chi-miigwetch to all who worked, volunteered and attended.
